The high artistic quality, the Karin Kneffel (* 1957 in Marl) shows in their canvases, equally distinguished their graphics. By an absolutely unique design force, which knows how to combine seemingly effortlessly artistic claim with an immensely charming aesthetics, Karin Kneffel has swooped up to the rank of one of the most important artists within contemporary art. It constitutes a part of the allure of these works, to lead the technical capacity of the painter in front.

Karin Kneffel uses for their sophisticated work on self-made photographs, which they used several simultaneously as a compositional template. This creates opportunities, says about the artist himself: "You have to look a little longer to realize that nothing is true [...] One cannot situate themselves in it even correct...” Seemingly effortlessly, she combines artistic ambition with an incredibly sexy aesthetic that oscillates between photorealism and blur.

According to a German language and literature and philosophy studies in the years from 1981 to 1987, Karin Kneffel studied at the Kunstakademie Dusseldorf under Johannes Brus, Norbert Tadeusz, and Gerhard Richter. 1984-85, she received a fellowship at the Cité Internationale des Arts, Paris; in 1991 the Karl Schmidt Rottluff scholarship; 1995/96 Villa Massimo, Rome. 1995 she took over teaching at the Summer Academy Augsburg, 1998 guest professor at the Hochschule fur Kunste Bremen and in the year 2000 at the Iceland Academy of the arts, Reykjavík. From 2000 to 2008, she was Professor of painting at the Hochschule fur Kunste Bremen.

Since 2008 Karin Kneffel is a professor of painting and graphics at the Academy of Fine Arts, Munich. She lives and works in Dusseldorf.
