"He offered us the colors of life in the lightest and the most pure way", said Franz Marc about August Macke in 1914. They were close friends. Macke discovered some of the Marc's lithographs in 1910 at his visit of Munich and since that time tried to contact him. The same year Franz Marc invited Macke to Tegernsee, where he created the famous "Sailing Boats".
