Simon Dittrich was born in 1940 in Teplitz/Schönau. He lives in Stuttgart. Between 1959 and 1961, he studied at the Hochschule für Gestaltung, Offenbach. Between 1961 and 1969, he studied at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste in Berlin. Master student of Hann Trier. In 1968, Villa-Romana Award, in 1971 Promotion Prize of Munich. In 1985, Sudeten German Culture Prize for Visual Art and Architecture. In 1992, city painter in Bremervörde. With over 150 individual exhibitions in Germany and abroad and numerous public purchases, Dittrich is one of the most brilliant drawers of our time.

As poet of the line, he eludes the easy classification by fashionable art currents. He places linear shapes in the center of his work. An elemental, need of artistic expression, a creative drive lead to barely manageable wealth of new forms. Winged by an incredibly resourceful imagination, Simon Dittrich opens to us a poetical world of adventures and fabulous.

Simon Dittrich’s etchings are art works bringing our own world to our eyes in a playful and joyful manner. By small allusions and humorous details, they draw attention to situations, invite to accurate look and, maybe, even to reflection and reconsideration.

In his cityscapes, he reflects the characteristic, the typical and also lets so many beautiful details of a free spirit flow into his representations, that they fascinate and touch us. Dittrich turns the world into images of great beauty and best humor.
