Short description
Museum Replica | Bronze + Diabase | Patinated | Polished | Heigth 38 cm
Rodin held himself for a creative giant and this idea penetrated the style of the great sculptor. Thanks to the long-time interest in Dante he acquired the feeling of existential fear and developed the idea of heaven and hell, the measures of which were unclear. In 1880 he got a state’s order to create a monumental portal of the Museum of Decorative Arts – the Gate of Hell, created after Dante’s Inferno. Its 186 dramatically-dynamic figures occupied him till the end of his life. Some of the gate figures were left out. One of them is a “Thinker”, which expresses strength with his swelling muscles and motionless, closed limbs. His strong strain reflects the tragic fate of mankind. The form developed from the play of light and shade was taken outside time and entered eternity. Through the expressive vehemence Rodin become on the inspiratory of Modern.
