The Groednertal has been the center of wood carving for 250 years already. In the middle of the 19th century the first Grödnertal sculptors found a way to the art academies. So the handicraft arts are combined with academic education. For example Ulrich Perathoner comes from a family with a long tradition of wood carving art which he brought to perfection in the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome.
His design of the "Ulrich Shepherd Crib" proves of his mastery. It is performed in the traditional country style and shows a unique handicraft art: the small filigree and expressive figures are made from air-dried maple wood and painted by hand up to the smallest detail. Each piece is unique. Format of the stall 27 x 58 x 27 cm (H/W/D).
