Short description
ars mundi special edition | Limited, 199 copies | Numbered | Signed | Tin alloy silvered | Format 7 x 9.5 x 9 cm (H/W/D) | Weight ca. 1.7 kg
I am the artist who is occupied with serial structures, with systems which become interesting as a picture once they reach a determined number, said Ottmarl Hoerl about his art. So in his actions the artist crowded the Nurenberg main square with 7 000 hares (2003), filled the market square of Wittenberg with 800 sculptures of Luther (2010) and the court in Munich with 2000 white and blue lions (2015) or finally brought 10000 owls to Athens on the occasion of the Olympic games.
The Duke square in Zweibruecken was filled with roses. The background: Zweibruecken is famous as a "city of roses". There one can find the biggest garden in Europe with 60 000 roses of 2 000 different breeds.
That is why the rose was more than simply a flower: since the antique times it is famous as a symbol - of paradise in the Christian iconography, of love in the later times, of poetry, wisdom, beauty and evanescence. This variety of meanings made the flower so interesting for the artist.
On the occasion of Ottmar Hoerls's action in Zweibruecken we have launched a special numbered and signed edition of 199 copies from silvered tin alloy. Format 7 x 9.5 x 9 cm (H/W/D). Weight ca. 1.7 kg. ars mundi special edition.
