Sculpture "Nike from Samothrace", Artificial Casting Yellow

More than 2,000 years ago the inhabitants of the city of Rhodes commissioned this statue to commemorate the naval victory over Antiochus II of Syria and announced to the contemporary seafarers the achievement of a safe haven. Already then, it was considered a masterpiece, which with no other equal. Its significance to later art became obvious when it was rediscovered in 1863 above the Kabir sanctuary on the island of Samothrace. She soon found her way to the Louvre, where she found an equally prominent and imposing site at the top of the Daru staircase, the staircase between the ground floor and the first floor.

The Nike of Samothrace soon became the icon and a model for a multitude of variations (just think of the radiator character on Rolls Royce). The statue inspired countless artists such as Salvador Dalí, Andy Warhol or Yves Klein for artistic exploration - one of the 25 deep blue Nike figures of Yves Klein created in 1962, saw an auction price of nearly $ 100,000 in 2013.

Ars mundi offers you the symbolic figure for "Winner" as a pop art version in yellow.
