Stele "The Rosetta Stone"

For historians it is the key to secrets of Egypt. The first person who managed to decipher the Egyptian hieroglyphs on this written stone stele was the French scientist Francois Champollion, who did this in 1821. The stele is inscribed with a decree issued at Memphis, Egypt, in 196 BC on behalf of King Ptolemy V. The decree is written in Old Egyptian, in colloquial Demotic an in Greek. Then it was the symbol of friendship and equality of people and – today it is an incredible finding for scientists. Original: basalt, British Museum, London. 196 B.C., found in the delta of Nile.

Polymer ars mundi museum replica, cast by hand. Reduction. Format 15 x 20 cm.
