Daniel Richter is undoubtedly one of the brightest stars of German contemporary art. Born in 1962 in Eutin and raised in the Hamburg punk scene, he studied at the College of Fine Arts, Hamburg with Werner Buettner.

His oeuvre has won several awards and has been exhibited around the world, including the greatest art metropolia like Los Angeles, New York, Toronto, and Berlin. Since 2003, Richter takes professorships at several renowned universities. He lives and works in Vienna, Hamburg, and Berlin.

"Daniel Richter, next to Neo Rauch, is the most important German artist of his generation: his large-format oil paintings are full of references to real and historical events, they confuse and shock. Richter is interested in the complex reality, but he finds dreams and fantasies boring." (Holger Liebs, Sueddeutsche Zeitung)

"The idea that painting is bourgeois is as stupid as the idea that rock music is proletarian, or rap belongs only to the blacks, or long hair only to the hippies." Who cares? "Things belong to him who takes them. And the proof of the pudding is the observation of the people who look at it. " (Daniel Richter)
