César: Picture "La Lettera Q", unframed

The graphic and sculptural works made Cesar the french man famous. his art are distinguished by their compact design. As in his "Compressions" (Tate Gallery, London) the masterful sheet, the letter Q from our alphabet describes objects that were no longer screened efficient use of the industrial society of the 20th century.

The Fiat small car disintegrated into pieces is compressed to a dense bundle of material. The whole thing depends on the quasi large Q, which attracts the metal like a huge magnet. Photolithography in eight colours, signed and back numbered. Limited edition of 5.000 pieces. Sheet size: approx 23.5 x 29.8 cm.

César, or César Baldaccini (Marseille 1921 - Paris 1998) together with Arman are the leading representatives of „Nouveau Réalisme“ ("New Realism"). César made metal sculptures from the previously prepared metallic parts since 1949. In 1960 he introduced sculptures made from compressed auto parts (compressions). They were followed by casts of body shapes and "expansions" of flexible plastic which he introduced in 1966.
