Short description
Limited, 950 exemplars | Original Dietz replica | Oil on canvas | On a stretcher frame | Gold elements | Real wood strip | Format: ca. 99.5 x 71.5 cm (H/W)
Section of the 1845 faculty painting "Medicine", which was destroyed by fire in 1945 in Immendorf Castle, in Lower Austria.
Hygieia, the miraculous daughter of Aesculapius, is deemed the "Muse of medicine" and is a metamorphosis of the snake into a human being. Between future and past, life is going on and the life itself is on its way from birth to death, causing the deep sufferings for which Hygieia found soothing and healing means. Hygieia offers to the snake the jar with "Lethe´s flow", to drink its primordial fluid. By this, Klimt tries to represent the unity of life and death, the penetration of instinctual disintegration.
Original Dietz replica. Oil on canvas in 70 colors with partial genuine gold applications. Limited series 950 exemplars. Framed with dark real wood strip. Format: incl. frame ca. 99.5 x 71.5 cm.
