Head of Cupid

Eros, the Greek god of love, was at the beginning of the 4th century BC one of the most popular subjects for sculptors. The greatest among them, Lysippos and Praxiteles, played a leading role in helping to bring his image among the people. This bust is the work of a Roman copyists and therefore bears the name Cupid. He created it after a much copied and probably lost Greek original from the 4th century. Surprised are the youthful facial features and the look with which Amor follows the arrow that hits the gods and men right into the heart. Original: Collection Somzée. Marble. Polymeric ars mundi museum replica, cast by hand. Format 27 x 46 x 19 cm (W/H/D).
