Short description
Wool + cotton + polyester | Tapestry | Format 110 x 150 cm
This impressive Flemish tapestry is an outstanding work after the famous unicorn tapestries of the late medieval period, 1495-1505. The "caught unicorn" was deemed in the middle ages as a symbol for a happy marriage. The unicorn could have easily flown if he wanted. The tape binding him to the Tree of Life is thin and the fence is more a protection than a barrier. Obviously, he is happy where he is.
The hand-woven original can be admired in the Metropolitan Museum in New York.
First class tapestry, exquisite work of wool, cotton and polyester. Format 110 x 150 cm.
