The art of Lehmbruck, like one of his contemporaries,, was influenced by the works of Auguste Rodin. His main motif is the human, representing which the artist often breaks the body proportions to reach the bigger expressive power. Like Rodin, in his later works he addressed to presenting separate parts of the human body; the work "Woman with Lowered Head" is a part of his series "Great Statues" from 1910, in which he limited the sculptures to presenting the head, neck, and shoulders of the busts.
