1928-1987

Andy Warhol was America's most famous artists. He was regarded as a revolutionary, eccentric and inventor of Pop Art and was all of the mentioned at the same time. Art criticism is celebrating it with predicates as yet no artists were awarded, not even Pablo Picasso and Salvador Dali. Alfred given Nemeczek: "They (the predicates) ranged from" pop star "to" pop artist ", where the" pop genius "by the" pop princes "to" Prince of Pop "and continue up to" Pop King "," pop Tsar "and" Great Mogul ". However," high priest "and" Pope of Pop "is the" "baptized" Picasso of Pop-art. (Artist - Critical Dictionary of Contemporary Art)

Warhol was born in Pittsburgh in 1928 and died in 1987 in New York. The son of Czech immigrants went to the high school as a student at the Carnegie Institute of technology in Pittsburgh. In 1949 he settled in New York, to debut three years later with his work at the Hugo Gallery. Until then, he worked as a commercial artist for fashion magazines, and designed Christmas cards, LP covers and weather maps for the television. Soon after, however, the artist had the idea to put objects of everyday life in the centre of his pictorial motifs. The graphics offered him for the medium and sought-after cult objects were created.

The most famous silkscreen prints are the pictures of the red-and white soup cans of Campbell, as well as the two dollar bill. With these works Warhol is one of the artists who radically in the US and England broke since the 50s with the artistic tradition and a new art movement, the Pop Art was created.

Roy Lichtenstein and Tom Wesselman include not only Warhol to the American officials who were their pictorial themes in the world of advertising, comics and the superstars of Hollywood. Elvis Presley, Jackie Kennedy and Marilyn Monroe have become icons in Warhol's repertoire of images.

The collection of everyday motifs into a work of art is this the opportunity to obtain a level of attention that it has as a matter repeatedly used ever. Warhol called by his way of photographic reproduction of the object that it needs to act by itself. The works in which he implemented repetitions of the same subject, make this claim and act but also by its colour transformations. The artist sees the world as it is and presents them: "I am extremely passive. I take things as they are. I watch just, I observe the world. "
