Tom Wesselmann, as one of the outstanding representatives of Pop Art, has significantly influenced the art history of the 20th century next to Andy Warhol, Robert Rauschenberg and Roy Lichtenstein.
Wesselmann's works focus on a central point of modern society: the sex and star cult, strongly advertised by visual media. In his works he makes use of the methods of advertisement and magazines in a very creative manner.
In 1961 he became known with his female nude "Great American Nude". His model from the first nudes was his wife Claire. But from the early 1980s he worked with Monica Serra, who he met at the opening of one of the exhibitions and hired her as an assistant. The works of Wesselmann follow the tradition of the classical nude painting from Titian to Manet, Matisse and Picasso, whom he quotes in some of his works.
Tom Wesselmann can belong to the classics of the modern art, whose unique style is excelled through the aesthetics of the abstract expressionism in a motif frame of the eye-catching pop thematic.
