The Spanish artist Antoni Tàpies, born in 1923 in Barcelona, died in 2012, was a founder of Informel and one of the most prominent modern artists.

The main color was black, which served to emphasize the effects of light. Tàpies worked using thick paint layers and specific graphic structures, which provided his characters with antique mystical foundation. His graphic prints are firmly connected to his drawings.
Almost all museums of Modern Arts dedicated him huge exhibitions, which provided him with world-wide fame and numerous prices – among the others he received the golden medal of the fine arts from king Juan Carlos. In Barcelona there is a special museum, dedicated to Tàpies.
Near the other masters of the material design - Burri (BURRI), Fautrier, Wagemaker – Tàpies takes a special place in according to the Spanish national council. He is famous not for the richness of colors, but for merge economy of personal experience, which gives shape to his pictures. His art is not exuberantly and sonorously whispering, but expresses his artistic experiences in strong, almost dim meditation of his material.
