The pop art artist Jim Dine was born on 16.06.1935 in Cincinnati/Ohio.
The painter, sculptor, graphic and happening artist, who became world-known due to his virtuoso mastering of complex techniques, concluded in 1958 his study at the University of Cincinnati and the Boston Museum School. Between 1960 and 1965, he was guest professor at various American universities.
At the end of the sixties, Jim Dine came to New York, moving in the atmosphere of the emerging pop art. Together with Claes Oldenburg and Tom Wesselmann, he established a gallery in which he performed his first happenings, for which he became known later.
Today, Dine is appreciated mainly for his paintings and graphic works, being assigned to pop art. By his poetical writing and his personal fund of themes displaying always heart variations appear, he took a special place in the art history. Dine’s spontaneous painting gestures show his closeness to abstract expressionism and also to Dadaism and surrealism.
