The Carinthian artist Klaus Brandner paints cheerful, subversive pictures with naughty ideas and a good dash of humor. Decorated in bright colors fantasy worlds possess a magical, poetic charm. In his pictures Brandner sees himself as a storyteller. He never consciously tried to paint abstractly. Brandner wanted his picture stories to be completed only by the eye of an observer: "My pictures are the beginning of a story for which everyone must find their own ending." The works of Klaus Brandner are characterized by strong color contrasts, interplay of lines and surfaces, and the narrative titles. Many exhibitions since 1986 have made him known outside Germany and Austria.
