Honoré Daumier (1808-1879) was the greatest France cartoonist. Humorously, he portrayed the politically disproportioned and narrow-minded middle class of Paris. For the social-satire daily paper ʺLe Charivari”, he drew thousands of lithographs. The political censure followed him for his entire life. For publishing his caricatures of the Citizen King” Louis-Philipe in 1830, he was even sentenced to six month in prison.
Only after the 1848 revolution, he was allowed for a short time to aim his satirical arrows to politics. That time, he created the immortal characters ʺRobert Macaire” and ʺPatapoil”.
