The unusual perspective and compositions in the pictures of Gustav Caliebotte impress. He was born on August, 19, 1848 in Paris. The rich engineer studied some time in the École des Beaux-Arts, but he liked to learn art from his friends more. As an adherer of the art of impressionist, he was in friendly terms with Monet and Renoir. At the beginning the central motifs of his works were usual workers bu he was especially fascinated by modern technology and so he became the artist of the moving, changing, dynamic world.
His pictures were influenced by photography and are often characterized by backlight representations. The daring fragments of his paintings and clear representation of the subject catch the viewer’s eye. He helped his friends in art by buying their pictures out from misery, so that by his death on February, 21, 1894 in his ownership there were 67 impressionistic paintings in his mansion in Petit Gennevilliers in Paris. According to his will these works were gifted to Louvre.
