Giuseppe Arcimboldo
Fantastic talent and eccentric portraits with much humor made Guiseppe Arcimboldo (1527-1593) one of the most bizarre Renaissance artists with the world fame. The composition of his portraits in which he composed famous contemporaries with the help of flowers, fruits, leaves, fish and books, is unique in its kind. The surprising collages of Arcimboldo radiate humor and irony, and were extremely popular half a millennium ago.
Thanks to his fanciful depictions Arcimboldo became one of the models for the surrealists of the 20th century. For example, Salvador Dalí interpreted some motives of the Renaissance master in his own works.
