Ando Hiroshige (also: Utagawa Hiroshige, 1797-1858) applies in addition to Hokusai as the most important colour wood carvers of his time. The most successful he had from all: After "53 Stations of the Tokaido" (1833 to 1834) had made virtually overnight famous publishing, remained his well-composed, up to his death detail-obsessed landscape paintings was so popular that often digit obligations have been met. Still revered in his lifetime as "Meishoeshi" (master in the depiction of famous places), it is not least his work has paved the Japanese woodcarving to Europe, especially the "100 Views of Famous Places in Edo" (Tokyo), the he created in his last years.
