Alberto Giacometti
The Alberto Giacometti (1901-1966) who was born in the Swiss Borgonovo in Stampa (Bergell) is one of the most important artists of the 20th century.
Giacometti concern was to capture reality in all its complexity, the main subject of his work is the existential representation of the people. Already in the 30s he was among the leaders of surrealism, but only after the war his real artistic legacy was created. Drawing of people in the streets inspired him to his tall, thin sculptures on - distant, almost disembodied acting figures that express both distance and proximity.
Today, Giacometti works are acclaimed highlights of all major collections and museums around the world. His large bronzes barely under 2-digit millions are estimated at auctions. Today, his "walking man" adorns the Swiss 100 franc note.
