Arts under the Sign of Stars
Many artists were inspired by the mysterious depths of the cosmos, for example, Albrecht Dürer ("The Star Charts") and Paul Klee ("Gelehrter im Umgang mit Gestirnen"). The painter Adam Elsheimer apparently succeeded in doing a small scientific sensation. His painting "The Flight into Egypt" shows a detailed starry sky and true-to-life Milky Way. The specialty of this painting is that it was created in the late summer of 1609 - and thus several months before Galileo Galilei reported his exploration of the Milky Way. As it seems, the artist who was interested in astronomy and possessed an early telescope, was a harbinger of a scientist.
