Portrait of the artist Bruno BruniBruno Bruni was born in 1935 in Gradara (Pesaro), Italy. From 1953 to 1959 he studied at the Istituto d'Arte di Pesaro, one year later he went to London and finished thereafter (1960-1965) his studies at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Hamburg.

The beginnings of his artistic career were strongly influenced by Georg Gresko, Horst Janssen and Paul Wunderlich, because of which he turned to lithography. Besides impressions of Otto Dix, George Grosz and the socially critical realism of the 20s played a significant role.

In 1967 Bruni received a scholarship of Lichtwark in Hamburg and in 1977 the International Senefelder Award for Lithography.

The artist got the international fame thanks to the unchangeable many-facet creations, which were presented as sculptures, oil paintings and graphic works. But color lithography is the kind of art which Bruni filled with spontaneity and freedom. His female slender nudes, still life or tender flower motifs got the erotic hints through the expression of drawings. The floral still life reminds about the graphic natural studies at Albrecht Durer. But Bruni is not concentrated on the detailed presentation of motifs, but sensitive depiction of flowers. So typical for gliding symmetrical lines are dominating in his works. The serpentines and winding lines are prevailing design. The less structured inner shape of the drawing perfectly emphasises the intense contour.

In addition to the clash of Renaissance mannerism and surreal influences the works of Bruni were under influence of Art Nouveau which can be especially recognized in his sculptural works.

Thanks to the charming sensitivity his artworks, which appear in the studios of Hamburg and Urbino, can become an oasis of peace in the noisy everyday life.

Numerous individual exhibitions in Florence, London, Berlin, Tokyo, New York and Leningrad made Bruno Bruni the internationally known artist whose works are sought after by collectors and art lovers.

When casting bronze, artist usually applies the lost-wax technique which is dating back more than 5000 years. It's the best, but also the most complex method of producing sculptures.

First, the artist forms a model of his sculpture. It is embedded in a liquid silicone rubber composition. Once the material has solidified, the model is cut out. The liquid wax is poured in the negative mould. After cooling down, the wax casting is removed from the mould, provided with sprues and dipped into ceramic mass. The ceramic mass is hardened in a kiln, and the wax flows out (lost mould).

For lower-grade bronze castings, the sand casting method is often used which, however, does not achieve the results of more complex lost wax technique in terms of surface characteristics and quality.
