Painting "Christ´s Birth"

Icons are consecrated cult pictures of the Orthodox Church, revered to these days as "windows to the other world" and painted by strict iconography norms. This masterpiece of the 16th century belongs to the former icon treasure of the Stavronikita Monastery on the holy mountain Athos. "Christ´s Birth" shows in radiant colors the entire Nativity story: Maria and Josef kneeling in front of the newborn whose crib, according to the Byzantine tradition, is placed in a cave. The grace of God shines directly from the heaven. Behind, the three Wise Men from the East are bringing gold, incense and myrrh. The shepherds in the field receive the joyful message from the heavenly host. One should also note the angel on the right side: a stroke above his nimbus is deemed as a sign of the divine word. The words in Greek mean "Christ´s Birth".

For the reproduction of this icon art masterpiece, a special screen print technique was used. Over 50 printing steps are necessary to transfer the intensity and density in an authentic manner and absolutely without grids on canvas and wood. The shimmering golden background is achieved with impact metal. Finally, the icon was sealed and hand patinated. The exquisite procedure is confirmed by the seal certificate on the back side!

Format: 32 x 42 cm.

Hint: In orthodox households, icons are placed usually in quite obscure places and illuminated with candles. In this way, your icon can disclose an almost magical luminosity and radiance!
